Viking Kite Headed Pin. A copper-alloy "Kite-Headed' pin, with centrally pierced flat lozenge head, small rounded knob to each angle, set on a collared base. 10th - 11th century AD. See PAS: SWYOR-77388A for similar. North Yorkshire. 95 mm in length. As found condition. These pins are considered to be Irish in origin, but are found in the UK because of Viking activity. Several flat headed pins were found in York and are published on page 2578 of Finds from Anglo-Scandinavian York by Mainman and Rogers. Extremely rare to find complete and in this condition. |
