Edward IV (First Reign). 1461–1470. Penny. Durham mint; King’s Receiver issue (1462–1464). Crowned bust facing; pellet over crown. Reverse: CIVITAS DONOLI; long cross pattée with three pellets in each angle and an extra pellet in one angle; rose in centre. This type may have been struck during either the heavy or light coinage periods, hence its dual listing in Spink. The coins cannot be reliably differentiated. Spink 1988A & 2053; North 1544.
