Struck at Limerick in 1691, during the period that it was under siege*. Halfpennies of this type are struck over large 'gunmoney' shillings. James II's supporters held the mint at Limerick for over a year after William III's victory at the Battle of the Boyne. The coins were struck after James himself had begun his exile in France.
