Claudius — Coins for Sale

Claudius

41–54 AD

Claudius, uncle of Caligula and successor to the Julio‑Claudian throne, proved to be one of Rome’s most capable and unexpectedly effective emperors. Despite being underestimated by his contemporaries, he expanded the empire through the conquest of Britain, reformed the legal system, and strengthened the imperial bureaucracy. His coinage is rich in traditional Roman symbolism, emphasising stability, piety, and the restoration of order after the chaos of Caligula’s reign. For collectors, Claudius’ bronzes are especially appealing for their historical depth and distinctive portrait style.
