Claudius Gothicus
268–270 AD
Claudius II, known to history as Claudius Gothicus, rose to power during one of the most unstable phases of the 3rd century. His decisive victory over the Goths at Naissus earned him his enduring epithet and helped stabilise the empire at a critical moment. Though his reign was short, his military successes and firm leadership paved the way for the reforms of Aurelian. His coinage is abundant yet historically rich, reflecting both the military priorities of the era and the transition toward a more resilient imperial structure. Posthumous issues honouring him as Divus Claudius further attest to his reputation and legacy.
