Vetranio — Coins for Sale

Vetranio

350 AD

Vetranio was a senior military commander who was proclaimed emperor by the Danubian legions in AD 350 during the political crisis following Magnentius’ revolt. Although briefly recognised by Constantius II, his authority remained limited to the Balkans. His coinage reflects themes of loyalty and military legitimacy, emphasising stability amid civil conflict. After meeting Constantius II at Naissus, Vetranio voluntarily abdicated on 25 December 350 and lived the rest of his life in comfortable retirement.
