LUCILLA
Wife of Lucius Verus
Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla, daughter of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina II, became Augusta upon her marriage to Lucius Verus in AD 164. As a prominent member of the imperial family, she enjoyed high status and appears frequently on coinage of the Antonine period. After the death of Verus, her political influence waned, and tensions with her brother Commodus eventually led to her exile and execution. Her coinage is admired for its elegant portraiture and themes celebrating fertility, piety, and the traditional virtues of Roman womanhood.
