PHILIP II
247–249 AD
Marcus Julius Philippus Severus, known as Philip II, was the son of Philip I and was elevated to the rank of Caesar in AD 247 before becoming co‑Augustus with his father. His coinage reflects themes of youth, dynastic continuity, and military promise, emphasising his role as heir to the imperial throne. Despite these efforts, the regime faced growing instability and military pressure. Philip II was killed alongside his father in AD 249 following the rise of Decius. His issues, though not rare, are popular for their clear portraits and strong dynastic iconography.
