Commemorative coins struck after her death.
Vibia Sabina, wife of Emperor Hadrian, was Augusta from AD 128 until her death in AD 136/7. A woman of noble lineage and considerable dignity, she accompanied Hadrian on many of his provincial tours, becoming a visible symbol of imperial presence. Although ancient sources describe a strained marriage, Sabina’s public image emphasised harmony, piety, and traditional Roman virtues. After her death she was deified, and a distinctive series of commemorative coins was issued in her honour. These posthumous issues are admired for their serene portraiture and refined artistry.
