Geta – Silver Denarius

WRS 11045

Geta. 209-212 AD. AR Denarius. Rev: VICTORIAE BRIT, Victory, half-naked, standing half-left, holding wreath and palm. RSC 219.

The VICTORIAE BRIT reverse commemorates the victories claimed in Britain by the Severan dynasty during Emperor Septimius Severus's British campaign (AD 208-211). Geta and his brother Caracalla accompanied their father to Britain, and coins bearing this reverse were issued to celebrate military successes against the northern tribes beyond Hadrian's Wall.
