APPULEIA 3. ROMAN REPUBLIC. 104 BC. AR Denarius. Moneyer: L. Appuleius Saturninus. Obverse: Saturn in quadriga right; dot and letter below horses; L. SATVRN in exergue. Reverse: Saturn in quadriga right; ROMA in exergue. Rare and highly unusual type. At first glance it appears to be struck from two reverse dies, but the design is intentional and forms a pair with the “double obverse” issue (Appuleia 2) of the same year. A fascinating and sought‑after anomaly in the Republican series.
