Anglo Saxon Zoomorphic Strapend.Recorded
on the UKDFD (# 34656) in November 2011 with the following description.
An Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic strap-end of Thomas Class
A, Type 5, Haldenby, Group 10 (see refs. below). The surviving lower
part terminates in a well defined animal head with large round ears and
pointed snout. There is a rectangular panel on the body and a
lozenge-shaped panel on the head, both of which are inlaid with niello
and have scroll decoration. The scrolls would originally have had silver
wire insets, but these, along with some of the niello inlay, are now
missing. The bifurcated attachment end of the strap-end is missing.
Thomas Class A, Type 5 (Silver wire); Haldenby, Group 10. 8th - 10th
