Aurelian
270–275 AD
Aurelian was one of the great soldier‑emperors of the 3rd century, remembered for restoring the unity and stability of the Roman Empire during a period of severe fragmentation. His decisive victories against the Palmyrene and Gallic breakaway states earned him the title Restitutor Orbis — “Restorer of the World.” Aurelian also reformed the coinage, strengthened the frontiers, and initiated major building projects such as the Aurelian Walls of Rome. His coinage is rich in military and solar imagery, reflecting both his martial authority and his promotion of Sol Invictus as a unifying imperial cult.
